SALT LAKE CITY – Mother’s Day is Sunday, but some mothers facing troubled times were celebrated at an event held Saturday.

An event was held at Rose Park Elementary School, and 350 mothers from all over the Salt Lake Valley were invited to enjoy lunch, listen to live music and receive a gift bag.

According to a press release from Hispanic Humanitarian Services, the event was held to help mothers facing tough times, and most of those who attended either live in shelters, are single parents, are refugees or are unemployed.

This is the fourth year the event has been held to help those in need enjoy Mother’s Day. The Reunion Band and a mariachi band were at the event to provide music.

Brianne was among the mothers who attended.

“This event means the world to me,” she said. “I have not been able to feel like I’ve been honored like this in a really long time.”
