SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City Police want the public's help to catch a man who tried to sexually assault a little girl in her front yard.
It happened Saturday around 6:30 p.m. at the home on Park Street, near 540 E. 800 South. Police say the 5-year-old girl was playing in her fenced yard when a stranger walked away, said he wanted to inappropriately touch the child, then yanked the girl by her hair.
"He grabbed her, pulled her to the fence and asked to touch her inappropriately," said Officer Greg Wilking, with Salt Lake City Police. "For some reason he got scared off and ran away. She went in and reported it to her grandma. Officers responded to the area and searched for the suspect but we were unable to locate him."
Only the child saw the suspect and described him as a slender white male, wearing a blue shirt or jacket with dark circles under his eyes. Police aren't sure how old he is. The child's family and friends hope someone will come forward with helpful information.
"We just don't want this to happen to anybody else, you know what I mean?" said Angela Ledger, a family friend.
"I just want him caught because no one should go through nothing like that," said the girl's grandmother, Linda Jones.
