WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah –Police arrested a man Tuesday who allegedly sexually abused five female relatives between the ages of 6 and 12.

Police arrested 19-year-old James Erwin Tuesday, and on Thursday the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office filed nine counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child against him.

Police were made aware of the alleged abuse as a result of an investigation into an unrelated matter at the home where the suspect and three of the alleged victims were living. One of the children spoke of the alleged abuse to the Division of Child and Family Services, who contacted police.

According to information from the West Valley City Police Department, detectives interviewed the three girls living in the home as well as the suspect. Detectives determined that two more female relatives who had visited the home had also been included in the alleged abuse.

Detectives questioned Erwin and “were able to corroborate information that the five girls had given.”

Erwin is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $250,000 bail.
