Man falls while hiking in Red Cliffs, officials say

WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 42-year-old man is in fair condition after falling down a mountainside in Washington County, officials said Monday evening.

Search and rescue crews responded to an injured hiker in the Red Cliffs Recreation area north of St. George, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim and his hiking companion, a man in his 50s, had been hiking when the victim lost his footing and rolled about 30 feet down a mountainside, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim suffered from cuts and bruises but never lost consciousness.

Search and rescue crews carried the man to the road on a stretcher where he was taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

The victim’s hiking companion was not injured.
