SALT LAKE CITY -- If Utah had been a country at the Sochi Winter Olympics it would have finished 10th in the final medal count.

Those Utah Olympians were honored at the Governor’s State of Sport Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night. They all say the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and the amazing venues and terrain made them the athletes they are today.

“Having all these mountains around here, Snowbird and Brighton to ride at and the Canyons and Park City has been so key for me to hone my skills of snowboarding,” said Olympics gold medalist Sage Kotsenburg. “I don’t think I could have done it without being here. “These mountains, they have something to them.”

“Anywhere I go people recognize that Utah is a super special place to grow up, especially doing stuff on snow.”
