A Salt Lake County corrections officer was allegedly assaulted by an inmate Monday.

The assault on the officer occurred at approximately 1 p.m. It was related to Po-Ching being upset his phone call was ended, according to a press release.

As the officer was escorting the inmate back to his cell, Po-Ching became argumentative and abruptly aggressive. He allegedly turned on the officer and began assaulting him. The officer was taken to the hospital where he received stitches to his eye. He was released in good condition.

Jordan Po-Ching was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail in December 2013 for aggravate kidnapping, disorderly conduct, driver’s license violation, aggravated burglary, robbery and public intoxication.

Assault charges, third degree felony, have been filed against Po-Ching.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said there was no reason to believe the assault was connected to the shooting Monday at the new federal courthouse in Salt Lake City.
