DAVIS COUNTY -- The Utah Department of Transportation frequently uses overhead signs to warn motorists on Interstate 15 in Davis County of "Standing Water" during rain showers. But the warning didn't prevent a three-car accident on Sunday where three people went to the hospital with injuries.

"The paramedics and the highway patrolman said they respond to accidents all the time in that same area, and it's not a coincidence," Jennie Price said, recalling the aftermath of the accident.

Price had been the passenger in a van driven by her husband, which struck a car after it lost control on the wet roadway.

"This is an area that we are concerned about. When it does rain and snow and it starts to melt, we do have some hydroplaning going on right here," Sgt. Rick Shrader of the Utah Highway Patrol told Fox 13 News.

A major construction project is set to begin in the area in mid-April.

UDOT officials say aging bridges need replacing and express lanes need to be added to the interstate. Examining drainage issues is not currently a priority, but UDOT added, will be looked into.
