SALT LAKE CITY – As summer approaches, officials are offering advice as well as warnings regarding wildfires in Utah.

Officials with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands are meeting with homeowners across the state to help them prepare for wildfire season.

Utah averages hundreds of wildfires each year, which threaten wildlife, land and property.

Officials recommend people do things like clean up dead leaves and debris around their home, clean their gutters, and prune plants to prevent fire hazards. Officials said embers on fire can travel through the air as far as a mile, and if they come in contact with such flammable materials in yards or on roofs—a wildfire can ignite.

FOX 13 News’ Bob Evans spoke with officials regarding fire prevention, see the video above for details.
