LINCOLN, Neb.– The Cinderella story came to an end for the BYU women’s basketball team on Saturday.

The 12-seeded Cougars surprised their local fans and the rest of the country by reaching the Sweet 16 at the NCAA tournament.

And for one half they looked like they might catch UConn sleeping, too. But the No. 1 team in the country responded in the second half. The Huskies came out of the locker room with a slim one-point lead but went on two win by 19.

The 70-51 victory sends Connecticut to the Elite Eight with a perfect 34-0 record. After the game, BYU Coach Jeff Judkins said he hopes BYU can build from this to achieve national prominence.

Senior guard Kim Beeston, who led the Cougars with 16 points, said that their tournament run is an experience that she will never forget.
