OREM, Utah -- An 80-year-old crossing guard is recovering after he was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning.

Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said the accident happened near Orchard Elementary School, 1035 North 800 East, around 7:23 a.m.

Martinez said the crossing guard was in the crosswalk, wearing an orange vest and holding a stop sign, when he was hit by a vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for neck injuries.

Martinez said the driver who hit the crossing guard was cited for no insurance and for failing to yield to a crossing guard.
