Man dies in BASE jumping accident near Moab

MOAB — A 35-year-old man is dead after a BASE jumping accident Friday near Moab, officials said.

The accident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. in an area known as the “sweet spot” above Mineral Canyon, about 40 miles west of Moab.

The victim was found about 400 feet from the top of the cliff, according to a press release from Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim’s friends called in the accident to the sheriff’s office when they were in an area of cell service, the release stated. Search and rescue crews also responded to the scene to recover the body.

The jumper was pulled out of the area on Saturday at about 12:30 p.m.

His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
