UTAH COUNTY – A football player for Brigham Young University has pleaded not guilty to a charge involving underage drinking.

According to court records, Jamaal Malik Williams, 18, pleaded not guilty on February 21 to a charge of having a measurable amount of alcohol concentration in his blood, breath or urine.

Williams plays as a running back for BYU’s football team.

A document from the Utah County Justice Court states the alleged offense occurred on February 16. Specific details regarding the incident were not immediately available.

A pretrial conference has been scheduled for May 7.

FOX 13 News has reached out to the BYU football sports information director for comment, but has so far not received a response. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.

Brigham Young University requires students to follow an honor code, which prohibits consuming alcohol even for those who are legally able to do so. A BYU football player was suspended by the school for several games in 2013. School officials did not specify why the player was suspended, but Spencer Hadley later admitted he had consumed alcohol prior to the disciplinary action.
