PROVO, Utah --  A student at Brigham Young University who was nearly killed in a longboarding accident is recovering despite long odds against her, and a concert scheduled for Friday night will raise money to help the injured woman.

Doctors initially said freshman student Lexi Hansen had less than a five percent chance of surviving, but now her family is saying Lexi is experiencing a miraculous recovery.

Cassidy Stephens, Lexi’s sister, said friends, family and others have been praying for her recovery, and after less than a month Lexi has shown improvement.

“She opened her eyes and she had signed, ‘I love you’ with her hand and signed it all around the room so each of us could see it,” she said.

A benefit concert for Lexi is being held Friday night at Bingham High School, and multiple artists will perform. The concert is at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available at the door.
