SPANISH FORK, Utah  – More than a month after a Utah police officer was shot in the head during a crime spree that killed another deputy, the recovering officer spoke with FOX 13 News about his progress.

Sherwood was at the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Saturday, as friends, neighbors and others had pitched in to present him with a motorcycle. Sherwood is a motorcycle enthusiast who has been riding for years.

FOX 13 News’ Todd Tanner spoke to Sherwood about the gift of the motorcycle as well as his recovery, see the video above for his interview.

Those who donated the bike did so to show their support for Sherwood and give him something to do once he recovers a little bit more. The request for donations was shared on social media, and one donation came from as far away as the United Kingdom.

Sherwood said he has been very appreciative of the outpouring of support from friends, family and the community.

“I’d like to take this chance to thank anyone and anybody who has done anything to help me,” he said.

The man who allegedly shot Sherwood was fatally shot by officers later that day, and officials ruled the shooting was justified. A teen girl, who was allegedly driving for the shooting suspect, has been charged in connection with the shooting.
