WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Two biology students in Missouri reportedly found the body of an infant in a cave Tuesday, and on Friday two people were facing charges in connection with the case.

FOX 13 News sister station FOX 4 Kansas City reports the students found the body near a pile of burned trash in a cave located in a wooded area. See the video above for a report from FOX 4 Kansas City’s Robert Townsend.

FOX 4reported Friday that two people, 19-year-old Latasha Wilson and 20-year-old Zakary Carter, had been charged in connection with the case.

The area is part of the University of Central Missouri’s 300-acre recreation area and is about a mile south of the university’s main campus. The students who found the child were in the area to research snakes.

One of the students who found the child reportedly said they smelled rotten meat and burning trash and saw “what looked like a diaper.”
