OREM, -- Utah -- The Utah Valley University Wolverines' basketball game Saturday night is their first since an on-court altercation that resulted in player suspensions for students at New Mexico State.

There were no suspension for UVU players, but several among their opponents that night, New Mexico State.Fans rushed the court, and an act of poor sportsmanship escalated into a fight Thursday night.

Utah Valley University released the following statement regarding the altercation via Twitter:

"The incident following Thursday’s game was an unfortunate and sour endnote to an otherwise brilliant performance by both teams. The Western Athletic Conference and both universities are reviewing the incident and gathering information. Any questions should be directed to the WAC office."

FOX 13 News' Todd Tanner spoke to students at UVU Saturday, and made attempts to speak to school officials regarding the previous incident and their preparations for Saturday's game. See the video above for his report.

FOX 13 News received a statement from the Western Athletic Conference Commissioner earlier, which states:

“While the suspensions handed down are appropriate for the actions of the involved student-athletes, there will be a continued review of other incidents that occurred as a result of fans rushing the court. There are obvious safety and security issues that need to be addressed, and I also have requested additional games management information from Utah Valley University.”
