ST GEORGE, Utah - Southern Utah home builders are showing off now nice it can be to live beneath the red rock.

The 24th annual St. George Parade of Homes is going on, and attracting people from all over the state.

The Southern Utah Homebuilders association is featuring 28 homes throughout Washington County as part of the tour. Organizers said they’ve seen a significant increase in attendance from last year, showing a strong recovery in the home building market.

“We had some really rough years recently, and housing is coming back,” said SUHA executive officer Mari Smith. “We’re just so excited about the ‘American dream.’ We want to encourage people to really do your research.”

That research will take parade of homes attendees to some Southern Utah extremes, affordable family homes, ranging from contemporary to traditional, and multi-million dollar desert oasis’s.

“There’s a lot of people very interested in the contemporary finishes,” home builder Jake Joines said. “It’s a timeless style that has been good for a lot of years and will continue to be good, it’s not a fad or a fashion.”

The parade of homes is a signature event in St. George, and people come in from throughout Utah to attend, many looking to buy, but some just getting ideas.

“Even if you’re not in the market to buy a new home, by attending the parade you can come and look at some fun designs tips that you can incorporate into your own home,” Smith said.

St. George resident Richard Hess is one of those, he says he enjoys visiting the homes, to see what’s going on in his own community.

“I’m redecorating,” Hess said. “I’m looking for some ideas right now, here’s where we’ll find them.”

The St. George parade of homes runs through Sunday, Feb. 23.
