OGDEN CITY — Thousands of Ogden City residents will receive free smoke alarms because of grant that awarded the city’s fire department dual smoke alarms, according to a city Facebook post Monday.

The Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant appropriated $106,000 for the purchase of 5,250 smoke detectors, batteries and information pamphlets.

The alarms will be distributed throughout the community in need-based areas within the next few weeks.

Ogden City Firefighters will knock on doors to give out and install the detectors.

Smoke alarms can save lives and reduce the risk of death by fire by 50 percent, according to the city’s post.

Contact the Ogden City Fire Department for more information. Residents can also call the fire department at 801-629-8074.
