ALPINE, Utah – Students in the Alpine School District have the opportunity to get hands-on with some advanced technology thanks to a robotics program brought to them by Utah Valley University.

Dozens of students majoring in elementary education from UVU worked with the school district and local businesses to put together the “Learning Through Robotics” program—which is designed to open young minds over the course of 10 weeks.

Those who are with the program said students often decide at a young age whether or not they like math, science and other “hard” subjects, and they said their goal is to get children excited about such subjects through things like robotics.

Students are given access to construction kits and software that allows them to learn about the robotics. Reese is one student in the program, and he said he’s made progress.

“When I just first started, I didn’t know how to program it to do what I wanted, but right now I’m actually learning how to program my robot to do things that I want it to do,” he said.

FOX 13 News’ Hope Woodside took a look at the program, see the video above for more details.
