DRAPER, Utah – Students at a Utah high school worked for weeks to help the hungry, and they gathered more than 30,000 food items to help those in need.

Students at Draper’s Juan Diego Catholic High School gathered 32,000 food times as part of the Souper Bowl of Caring, which is a national movement to fight hunger.

Students helped load the donated food onto trucks Friday, and the trucks will take the items to the Utah Food Bank, which will then distribute the goods across the state.

Molly Dumas is the public information officer for Juan Diego Catholic High School, and she said the effort is something the students believe in.

“The kids aren’t doing it for any particular thing other than help,” Dumas said. “That’s part of who they are, they serve.”

The project is an annual effort, but school officials said they help the food bank at other times of the year as well.
