SALT LAKE CITY – A proposal to build a convention center style hotel in Salt Lake City using a mixture of public and private funds gained the support of a Utah lawmaker who had previously opposed similar proposals.

Ben McAdams, Salt Lake County mayor, and Utah legislators met to discuss a proposal to build a hotel in Salt Lake City in order to better meet the needs of guests at conventions like Comic Con or other large expos and conventions.

Becky Lockhart, A Republican representative and the Speaker of the Utah House, announced her support for the new version of the proposal.

McAdams said the proposal will boost tourism in Salt Lake County while also benefitting the entire state.

“This is no risk to the tax payer,” McAdams said. “This will bring in visitors from outside of the state to experience what we have to offer. They will come here, they will shop in our stores, eat in our restaurants and they’ll pay taxes here.”
