EAGLE MOUNTAIN -- Another candlelight vigil was took place Monday to honor the two Utah County Sheriff’s Officers who were shot in the line of duty last Thursday.

Having the remembrance at Rockwell High School in Eagle Mountain is significant because Sgt. Cory Wridewas shot not far from the school.

"He is an absolute hero, he is one of the best guys I know," said Sgt. Wride's cousin at the podium, emotional as she reflected back on his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

"He lived his life with integrity and he was an example, he is truly someone who lived like he believed ," said one of his sisters who also spoke at the podium thanking the community for their support during such a difficult time. "Cory was a very quiet person and a very private person and he would not have wanted all of this but it has indeed made it easier for our family,"

The 44-year-old was killed last Thursday when he stopped his patrol car to check on a pick-up truck, that was pulled over with its flashers blinking on State Route 73.

That's when Wride was shot by the driver, 27-year-old Jose Garcia-Jauregui. The suspect died Friday from wounds sustained during a shootout with cops. Dep. Greg Sherwood was also shot by the suspect, and suffered a head wound. He's still recovering in the hospital.

The community of Eagle Mountain came together with candles lit to honor them both. Most never personally knew who Sgt. Wride was but still feel the loss.

"I'm touched that he served the community just a sad situation," said Heather Buckler.

"My husband is an officer up at the prison and so you kind of feel part of that, party of that family," said Jennifer Harris.

"The sacrifice that he makes he truly is the modern-day knights at the round table and they serve with honor and they protect us and I'm glad that do many people have showed up tonight," said Kyle Burdette.

This marked the 2nd vigil; there was one last night in Spanish Fork. Sgt. Wride's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Utah Valley University Event Center.
