WEST VALLEY CITY -- The former head of West Valley City’s Neighborhood Narcotics Unit is fighting his demotion.
Lt. John Coyle went before the West Valley Civil Service Commission Monday.
According to West Valley City’s investigation, Coyle’s demotion was a result of his failure to supervise proper documentation of evidence and failure to supervise proper use of force.
Coyle was in charge when members of the unit shot and killed 21-year-old Danielle Willard, which was deemed unjustified.
The unit was later disbanded and 120 cases connected to it were dismissed.
