SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz will honor former head coach Jerry Sloan by raising a “1223” banner to the rafters of EnergySolutions Arena on Friday.

The “1223” banner represents the combined total of Sloan’s regular season (1,127) and playoff (96) wins over his 23 seasons as the team’s head coach.

“Incorporating both his regular season and playoff victories, the number 1223 was selected to embody all of Jerry’s accomplishments and his countless contributions to the Jazz franchise and state of Utah,” said Randy Rigby, President of the Utah Jazz.  “This banner will serve as a symbol of the enduring legacy of Jerry Sloan, one of the greatest coaches in NBA history and forever a member of the Jazz family.”

The banner will be raised in a half-time ceremony during the game against the Golden State Warriors Friday night.

According to a press release, Sloan will become the 11th individual in Jazz history to have a banner raised in his honor at EnergySolutions Arena, and his 1223 will hang alongside five of his former players whose numbers are retired: Mark Eaton (53), Darrell Griffith (35), Jeff Hornacek (14), Karl Malone (32) and John Stockton (12); his former head coach and general manager Frank Layden (1); longtime Jazz owner Larry H. Miller (9), broadcaster “Hot” Rod Hundley (3051) and former Jazz players Adrian Dantley (4) and Pete Maravich (7).
