BLANDING, Utah — A man accused of beating his wife and abducting her and their teenage son was arrested in the Blanding area Monday.

Bountiful police received a missing persons report for the woman and her son on Sunday. Officers visited their home, but found no signs of a crime.

According to a press release, the woman was able to send a text message to her mother on Monday just before 10 a.m., saying she had been beaten and abducted by her estranged husband and she was in the Green River / Moab area.

Bountiful police investigators contacted law enforcement agencies in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico with a vehicle description and facts about the case.

A deputy from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and an officer from the Blanding City Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle traveling south near Blanding.

The deputy and officer stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody at gunpoint. The suspect was taken to San Juan County Jail pending transport to Davis County, where he faces kidnapping and domestic violence charges.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries related to the alleged assault. Her teenage son was not harmed.

It is FOX 13’s policy not to identify the victims in domestic violence cases. In keeping with this policy, the suspect in this case cannot be identified, due to his relation to the alleged victims.
