ST. GEORGE, Utah – The City of St. George celebrated its birthday during their annual Heritage Day, and the city has now been around 152 years.

St. George became a city on January 17, 1862, and the Heritage Day tradition was begun several years ago.

Those involved, like Mayor Jon Pike, said it’s a good way to get citizens involved and connect them to the town’s heritage.

“Just a way to kind of say thank you and get people enjoying this day, and of course it’s a beautiful day, a great day to be outside and enjoying the arts," Pike said.

Residents were treated to free root beer floats and rides on Sun Tran buses and admission to the St. George Art Museum was free from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday also marked the grand opening of the city’s children’s museum.
