LOGAN, Utah – A Utah State University basketball player who was suspended from the team indefinitely earlier this month has been charged with a second-degree felony.

A court charged Jarred Shaw with distribution of a controlled substance Friday.

The charge stems from an incident on Dec. 15, when police responded to a home where Shaw had allegedly been using drugs.

Assistant Chief Jeff Curtis of the Logan City Police Department said there were several individuals at the home.

“There was marijuana there at the scene, and Jarred Shaw along with two other USU students were there,” he said. “There were two females that were there, one 17 year old and one 18 year old.”

Police said all three were allegedly using marijuana. Shaw is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Shaw played center for the team, according to the team’s website.
