PROVO, Utah -- Although U.S. District Court Judge Robert Shelby denied a motion to halt same-sex marriages in Utah, Utah County Clerk Bryan Thompson has refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

"I think just a short, prudent review at this time," Thompson said. "We're not looking to extend this out for weeks or anything. We're just looking for a day or two. I think it's appropriate to do that. And I understand their arguments of contempt of court, but I think it's prudent as the elected official."

What is so hard about hearing, “Motion denied.” This County Clerk is in contempt of court and should be tried as such. Elected or not he should still be bound by the laws of the land…not by his own personal opinion.

I hope they find him in contempt and he is puinshed. He’s a bigot and turning them away is clearly against the law.

Allowing people to get married is not being destructive. However, him, as a government employee, IS being destructive by blatantly breaking the law and denying human rights.

He said himself that he is an elected official and the fact of the matter is that he is not fulfilling the requirements of the office he was elected to fill. It is not within the County Clerk’s authority to decide which laws he will follow and which he will not. I am extremely offended that he is disobeying a court order and is not being immediately held accountable for his unlawful actions. I am hopeful that in time he will face consequences for his actions, but he is knowingly and willfully disobeying the law. This is inexcusable and should be dealt with as soon as possible.

  • hey stupid

I wouldnt issue the license if I was clerk. It is immoral and i would not want to be apart of it. And if i was given the choice of doing it or face legal action or be fired or quit, I still would not issue the licenses. The judge is inventing law for the benifit of popular immorality. There is more against the judge and for the judge, but an immoral media holds sway right now, so we hear more in favor the immoral side than we do of the corrupt immoral judge that invented law from his bench.
Shame on the corrupt judge trying to make everyone act like him. God strengthen the clerk in his moral obligation to not be apart of the corruption of this wicked generation. Poor Utah, you have persucuted innocence for so long, who will come to your rescue?

Seeing people’s reactions to the recognition of the fundamental rights of homosexuals makes me think of a quote, “Doing justice brings joy to the righteous and terror to those who do evil.” Proverbs 21:15

    • John

1 Cor. 6:9& 10 states that men who submit to homosexual acts will not inherit the kingdom of god and are condemned by God. This sentiment is brought out many times throughout the bible. So if you are quoting from the Bible then don’t take a verse and twist it to your liking.
