SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City International Airport is expanding its airport screening process Monday.

TSA Pre✓™ is designed to let some passengers get through airport security faster by screening them before they get to the airport.

“Any alarm is resolved. So it`s not that you weren`t screened or received lower screening you just received different screening,” said Lorie Dankers, with the Transportation Security Administration.

The screening process has been available at terminal two for almost two years, but now both terminals will offer the expedited option, which means more travelers getting through security faster.

"Oh the speed is phenomenal and it's just one less thing to think about as you are traveling and  wondering where everything is,” said pre-check passenger Megan Chody.

Select U.S. citizens who are frequent flyers of participating airlines and members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) trusted traveler programs are eligible to receive expedited screening benefits, as well as military, and children.

“Our goal is to get every pre-check passenger through in less than eight minutes, two to eight minutes and beyond that we strive to get everyone through in less than 20 minutes,” said Paul Armes, federal security director for Utah TSA.

Airport officials said the great thing about TSA Pre✓™ is that you don`t have to be eligible to benefit.

“Of course anybody we take out of the general screening lanes can shorten the lines for those in those lanes,” Dankers said.
