SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries after the car she was riding in collided with a Sugar House Street Car Saturday morning.

Police were called to the area of 2100 S. 300 East after they received a call about suspicious activity.

An officer was waiting for another officer to arrive when he saw the suspected vehicle pull out of a parking in the area, said Sgt. Matt Budd with South Salt Lake Police.

The man fled when the officer turned on his spotlight, Budd said. Police didn’t have a chance to pursue the vehicle before it was hit by the train at the are near 2100 South 300 East.

Budd said the suspect attempted to go around the street car but was clipped on the backside of the driver’s side of the vehicle, causing the car to spin out.

Budd said the driver fled leaving the passenger wounded inside.

The suspect is still at large.

This is the first collision on the street car line, which opened Dec. 7.
