SANDY, Utah -- Unified Police held a press conference Thursday regarding a crime that happened one year ago in Sandy.

Officers said on Dec. 14, 2012, police and Sandy City Firefighters responded to a blaze near 2800 East Ksel Drive. As crews knocked down the flames, they discovered the bodies of two people in the home.

Homicide detectives took over and learned the victims had been shot to death before the home was set on fire. The victims were later identified asRalph Salazar, 59, and Alice Griego, 55.

Unified Police detectives said they've spent hundreds of hours on the case. They said they have certain key pieces of evidence, but no arrests to show for it.

Friday, relatives of the victims pleaded with the public for information about the case. They've even put together a reward, cashing out Griego's 401(k) in hopes it will generate the right tip in the case.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder acknowledged that the killer or killers knew what they were doing in terms of the murders and then covering them up with an arson fire. He said the suspect or suspects made a couple of key mistakes, and that the right tip will crack this case.

Anyone with information can call the Unified Police Department tip line at (385) 468-9817.
