SALT LAKE CITY – Two local organizations teamed up to help homeless families and pets in Salt Lake City Friday night.

Volunteers of America and Media Militia Productions hosted a benefit concert at the Lo-Fi Café, where they collected donations that included jackets, gloves and hats.

The VOA has served more than 10,000 people, and event organizers said they hope the benefit concert will help them continue their mission of service.

Brian Hutchinson is a development professional with the VOA, and he described the event.

“We have a fantastic partner that’s doing a concert  tonight, and she’s asked her concert goers to bring a donation for Volunteers of America, so I’m here collecting donations and just spreading the word about what we do,” Hutchinson said.

Mark Peterson, owner of Media Militia Productions, said two artists performed at the event.

“We have two local artists,” he said. “We have a band called Atheist, which is a DJ rap band with a lead singer as well, local group, and we also have a local artist... Her name is Jessy Kaye, who will be performing as well.”

Kaye is number one on ReverbNation's local Salt Lake City, Utah Singer Songwriter chart. For more information about Kaye, click here.
