BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah -- The Utah ski season has officially begun.

Brighton and Solitude are the first ski resorts to open for the new season. Anxious skiers and snowboarders said they couldn't wait for their first run down the mountain.

One skier, Sharkie, told FOX 13 news that he came all the way from Hawaii to hit the slopes at Solitude.

"Every season I like to be out here and ski," Sharkie said. "Love Solitude-- It's great!"

The mountain at Solitude is covered in snow, but most of it isn't ready for skiers yet. For now, skiers and snowboarders have access to four runs and three chairlifts.
