PROVO, Utah – BYU and Boise State have already agreed to play football against each other for the next 10 years, but in all of the preceding games between the two schools, the Cougars had been on the losing end.

That streak finally ended on Friday night.

In a nationally televised game, BYU’s defense dominated Boise State, and the offense celebrated a record-breaking performance. The Broncos ended the game with 499 total yards but only managed six points through two and a half quarters of play. By the time they scored their first touchdown of the night, the game was well in hand.

BYU scored first on a 20-yard touchdown run by Taysom Hill in the first quarter, then pushed the lead to 17-3 on a 37-yard pass from Hill to Ross Apo in the second quarter.

With less than a minute on the clock before halftime, the 64,000 fans at Lavell Edwards Stadium witnessed history when Hill hit Cody Hoffman for a four-yard touchdown that broke Austin Collie’s record for career touchdown receptions at BYU and set the new mark at 31.

Hill finished with over 300 yards passing and three passing TD’s to go with his rushing TD. Jamaal Williams added 100 yards rushing for the Cougars, who reached six wins on the season and accepted an invitation to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, where they will meet an opponent from the PAC-12 in December. For the record, the Utah Utes (who belong to the PAC-12 conference) still need two wins to become bowl eligible.
