TUCSON, Ariz. – The Utah football team failed to follow up their biggest regular season victory with another win, losing 35-24 Saturday night in Arizona.

Arizona scored first, but the Utes responded with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Travis Wilson to Anthony Denham.

The game went downhill for Wilson after that. Early in the second quarter, Marquis Flowers intercepted a pass from Wilson and returned it for an Arizona touchdown. Wilson left the game following his second interception with a badly battered right (throwing) hand.

Adam Schulz was serviceable in place of Wilson. He finished 12/23 for 142 yards and a 55-yard touchdown pass to Sean Fitzgerald on a flea-flicker in the third quarter. That came after a Kelvin York touchdown and gave Utah a one-point lead.

But Wilson was not the only Utah player who struggled. After a perfect start through six games, Andy Phillips missed two field goals, which would have had the Utes leading by two late in the game. Instead, they trailed by four and couldn’t get into the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Ka’Deem Carey, who ran for more than 200 yards against Utah last season, sealed the victory for the Wildcats with a 44-yard touchdown run with 90 seconds left to play. He finished with 236 yards on 40 carries.

Arizona earns their first PAC-12 victory of the season, Utah falls to 4-3 overall (1-3 PAC-12) and will continue their road trip at USC on Oct. 26.
