BYU student group’s video addresses depression, suicide among LGBT community

PROVO, Utah -- An LGBT group at Brigham Young University has embraced the message of an Apostle for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is reaching out to others who feel same-sex attraction.

The group Understanding Same Gender Attraction has existed at BYU for 3 years, and the organization is for students who obey the honor code and want to have an open discussion about same-sex attraction.

Last year the unofficial school group released a video called, "It Get's Better at Brigham Young University"and it just released a second video about tackling the issues of depression and suicide among the LDS LGBT community.

The group's president, Adam White, said the video came in response to a talk given at the LDS church's recent session of general conference by Jeffrey R. Holland. The talk was about helping those who are struggling with mental illness.
