GRANTSVILLE, Utah -- A man died after an officer-involved shooting in Grantsville Sunday night.

Grantsville police were called to the area of 54 E Clark St. for a welfare check. According to authorities, one officer originally responded to the scene, but quickly called for backup when 37-year-old Travis Davis approached the officer with a handgun.

"[Davis] came out of the home and was armed. Officers responded with appropriate action," said Chief Kevin Turner, Grantsville City Police Department.

Dispatch officials initially told FOX 13 News a medical helicopter had been dispatched to the scene, but they later said that request was canceled.

Police from Tooele City and Grantsille City have launched a joint investigation into the incident. No officers were injured.
