DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – It was an exciting day at Hill Air Force Base Friday as officials celebrated the arrival of the state’s first F-35s to come to the base for depot maintenance.

A ceremony celebrated the arrival of the fighter jets, and depot maintenance of the jets have begun at the base. The first jet arrived on Sept. 13 and will undergo post-production modifications at the base.

Historically, Hill Air Force Base has provided maintenance and repairs for various aircraft, and with the addition of these jets it’s expected to have an even bigger impact on the state.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said the new jets will benefit Utah’s economy.

“With this new weapon system being worked into the Air Force, this will provide many, many decades of depot maintenance work in Utah,” he said. “This will involve work for both the military and civilian employees, DOD employees in addition to contractors for the government. It’s difficult to overstate the positive economic impact that this will have on our state.”
