LOGAN, Utah – The family of a Utah State University student spoke about their son several days after he was killed in an accident on USU’s campus.

Eric Scott Anderson, 24, was biking down Old Main Hill when he hit a chest-high slack line. He died from injuries sustained in the accident.

A slack line is used for activities similar to tightrope walking.

Marvel Anderson, Eric’s father, said they want to thank the public for their kindness and support through this difficult time.

“My family, we’d like to express our sincerest thanks to everybody,” he said. “I knew he had friends, but I had no idea how many. It’s part of what’s kept us going is the outpouring.”

The family said they’ve received condolences and flowers from all over the world.

“We’ve had people come and say,’I’m sorry to intrude,’ and it’s, ‘No, no not at all,’” he said. “My daughter said, ‘How do you think we’d feel if nobody showed up?' It’s the people that show up that help get us through,” he said.

A memorial fund has been set up to help with funeral costs. The account is with America First Credit Union under the name Eric S. Anderson Memorial Fund.

The Andersons said they have no ill feelings and they don't blame the university or the students who were slack lining at the time. They said they are concerned for them, and their thoughts are with them as they cope as well.
