SALT LAKE CITY – About 250 volunteers worked to give a Salt Lake City elementary school a facelift Saturday.

Administrators, teachers, and volunteers from Fidelity Investments joined others in painting murals, building picnic tables and completing other projects at Jackson Elementary School.

Chris Sorenson, senior vice president and national general manager of Fidelity Investments, said they are eager to do what they can to help children.

"We are interested in inspiring the children, making sure that we create better conditions for them,” he said. “We know that when conditions are right, education and learning occurs.”

Congressman Chris Stewart, R-Utah, said he was glad to be a part of the project.

"It gives these kids and the school and the administrators here the sense that people care, and not just people in their immediate neighborhood, but people all over the city care and want to try and help them--and I think that's a beautiful thing,” he said.

Jackson Elementary School has students from all over the world, with more than 30 different first languages and cultures among them.
