PROVO, Utah — Pictures of a new jersey design for football players at Brigham Young University were unveiled Thursday, but several hours later it was announced the change would only be for one game.

The picture above was tweeted out by @BYUcougars along with: “Check out what’s on the back of the #byufootball uniforms this year.” The images showed that players would have one of three words above their number: tradition, spirit or honor.

However, later on Thursday it was announced the jersey design would only be used in the team’s homecoming game.

Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall tweeted just after 7 p.m.  “Talked to my team tonite. They want to wear tradition spirit honor on jerseys for homecoming only. Last names for rest of the year. PERFECT!”

According to byucougars.com, Tradition, Spirit, Honor are the guiding principles of the football program at BYU.
