Former cop charged with theft of drugs booked into jail

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah  —  A former police officer charged with pocketing prescription drugs from the home of a deceased cancer patient was booked at the Salt Lake County Jail and released Sunday.

Ryan Humphrey, 34, was a 10-year veteran of the West Valley City Police Department.

Humphrey, along with two other officers, was investigating the death of a 49-year-old man when a fellow officer said he saw Humphrey take some morphine pills from the home. Humphrey resigned immediately following the incident.

He has been charged with drug possession and theft. Humphrey was booked into jail Sunday and released.
