SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City’s finest have a new state of the art facility in downtown Salt Lake City, and the building is open for public tours.

The new public safety building is located along 475 South and 300 East, and there are free tours of the building available Saturday until 6 p.m. as well as next week Monday through Saturday, except on Pioneer Day.

Officials said the tour is an opportunity for residents to see how the city’s police officers work together in the new environment. The building is home to city government, police, fire and emergency management personnel, and it is strong enough to withstand an earthquake.

Chief Chris Burbank, Salt Lake City Police Department, said they’ve put all detectives on the same floor, which will help with investigations that involve multiple units.

“As a robbery occurs, very rarely does that not involve narcotics or even potentially the homicide unit,” Burbank said. “Now they’re able to share that information and actually work better to solve crime and prevent it from occurring.”

The building was paid for through a voter-approved bond.
