MURRAY, Utah – A man is in critical condition after a crash involving a motorcycle and two cars on I-15 Monday afternoon.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the wreck occurred on northbound I-15 near 4930 South around 4:30 p.m.

According to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol, a vehicle was moving from the HOV lane into lane one. There was another vehicle in lane one, and the driver of the first vehicle over-corrected back into the HOV lane and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle spun sideways and was hit in the rear by the second vehicle. The first vehicle hit the concrete barrier and rolled back into the HOV lane. A motorcycle traveling in that lane hit the side of vehicle 1, and the rider was ejected.

The man on the motorcycle, later identified as Jose Miranda of Salt Lake City, was wearing a helmet, but it came off because the straps were not tightened. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition with head injuries.

Sgt. Chad Hecker, Utah Highway Patrol, said drivers should be careful and give each other space.

“Maintain space, so that if something does happen in front of you, you can do what you need to do to safely avoid whatever obstacles that may be in front of you,” he said.

The driver of the first vehicle, 70-year-old Elna Jensen of Mapleton, had minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.
