SPANISH FORK, Utah – A man is in serious but stable condition after traffic delays from one accident contributed to a second wreck on I-15 Saturday near 1600 South.

A semi truck traveling too fast to make the turn crashed on I-15 at the 257 off-ramp as it tried to enter State Route 6. That wreck occurred around 12:30 p.m., and the off-ramp was closed until about 3:40 p.m., according to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

Shortly before the off-ramp was reopened, another wreck occurred. A woman was driving at about 60 mph when she noticed the traffic slowed in front of her and signaled to make a lane change. The driver looked to the right, and when she looked forward again she was too close to the motorcycle to avoid it, according to the press release.

The woman hit the motorcycle as she attempted the lane change, and the motorcycle was pushed into the rear of a third vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle was thrown into the air and landed on the road. He was wearing a helmet, but that was torn off during the accident. The man was taken to a hospital via LifeFlight with a fractured leg, abrasions and head injuries. He is in serious but stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.
