SALT LAKE CITY – Saratoga Springs mayor Mia Love is gearing up for a 2014 run for U.S. Congress.

Love officially declared her candidacy on May 18 at the state GOP Convention. She says she wants to challenge Rep. Jim Matheson, Utah’s only Democrat in Congress.

The race would be a rematch between Love and Matheson, who competed for Utah’s Fourth District in 2012. Love attracted national attention, including an invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention, but Matheson pulled out the win.

Matheson told FOX 13 on Friday that he’s confident in the success of his next campaign.

“I’ve been doing this a long time. They can run whoever they want against me. I’m confident that the voters will reelect me if I ever want to run for office,” Matheson said.

Love reportedly filed her candidacy with the federal elections commission.
