SALT LAKE CITY — It was a day of giving back to a place that plays an important role in the lives’ of burn victims.

The University of Utah Burn Center has held a burn camp in August of each year at Camp Tracy, but the cabins haven’t always been the most comfortable for the kids to sleep in.

Volunteers from the U of U and other local organizations came together to build about 80 new bunk beds on Saturday.

The U’s burn center said the Great Salt Lake Council and Boys Scouts of America have been donating the campsite to them for 14 years now, so they wanted to give back.

Brad Wiggins, burn camp director for U of U, said: “We actually have a team of people. We have burn camp volunteers and people from Salt Lake City firefighters and West Valley departments. Everyone here, like I said, you have a community coming together.”

Hayden Felt, business development director of Jacobsen Construction, said he was glad to help out with the project.

“We felt this was a worthy cause, and it’s a great Saturday to smell sawdust. I’m covered in sawdust. We’ve got a number of volunteers, and we need to recognize the following groups. We’re happy to work alongside the University of Utah burn center volunteers.”
