DENVER — A dance teacher a Noel Community Arts School in Denver got a surprise during her student’s final dance performance when her Air Force boyfriend proposed to her on stage.

Jamie Miller told FOX31 Denver in an email that she has known Phil Dayton for 19 years, since meeting him in high school in Illinois.

“On my first day of school in Biology class, I accidentally sat in Phil’s seat. We later realized we only lived 3 blocks away from each other and our friendship grew,” Miller said.

Miller moved to Colorado and Dayton joined the Air Force.

“Through several deployments to Afghanistan and around the world, Phil and I always remained in contact as friends,” Miller wrote.

About a year ago she met him at a conference in Washington D.C. and the two fell in love.

Miller has been teaching at Noel for several years now, but she has decided to move to North Carolina to be with Dayton, who is a Master Sergeant at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Wednesday night, “Phil surprised me by attending my last dance show and proposing!” Miller said.

A colleague, Dan Clarke, recorded the engagement proposal on video and posted it to YouTube.com.

In the video, Principal Stacy Miller brings an unsuspecting Miller on stage and Dayton walks up to her, kneels down and asks her to marry him in front of the audience and her students.

There was “not a dry eye in the house,” Clarke said.

Miller said she she plans to move to Goldsboro with Dayton in June.
