SALT LAKE CITY -- People gathered at city hall in Salt Lake City on Saturday for a "Slut Walk" in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The purpose of the event is to encourage survivors and allies to speak out against sexual assault.

Some people at the walk were dressed in a way that some might call scantily attired, but that’s the point. Those at the walk aim to counteract the idea that victims of sexual assault invited the attack because of what they were wearing.

Camille Chatterton, Dolls and Gent, said the way a person dresses does not invite or validate rape.

"Rape is never OK,” she said. “That's it. Rape is never OK. If you don't have the consent, you shouldn't go for it. I'm going to paint on my body, ‘I dress for your attention and not your aggression.’ That's it."

More than 250 similar walks were held around the country on Saturday. For more information, visit Slut Walk SLC's website.
