WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A local car care center is out thousands of dollars after thieves carried out an overnight robbery.

The thieves hit the Meineke Car Care Center, located at 3899 South Redwood Road, and they made off with cash, tools, car keys, a truck and other things. Store Manager Craig Stevens said the losses total more than $50,000.

"They cut the lock on the front gate with bolt cutters or whatever and came right in and just had a free for all,” he said.

Stevens said it looked like the robbers were familiar with the layout of the store.

"Some of the things that were stolen, they must have known where they were at,” he said. “So, that kind of concerns us. We don't know if an ex-employee or whatever; we're not pointing fingers at this time. We don't know. It just seems that some of the things that were taken, they must have known where they were at."

And store property wasn’t the only thing taken during the robbery.

“The poor mechanics back here that had their personal tools stolen,” he said. “Those items they pay for themselves. The shop does not provide those. Those are tools that they have gathered over 20 to 30 years of doing this."

The business is struggling after the theft, but they are hoping locals will help them find some of what was taken.

"We're hoping that pawn shops, people in the community can help us look out for those things,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery or the missing items is encouraged to contact the West Valley City Police Department.
